Jane Hutchins
Mary Jane (Gale) Hutchins, 89, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2018 with her family by her side.
Born on August 26, 1928 in Lake Placid,  it is believed that she was sent to St. Joseph's orphanage in Ogdensburg, N.Y. until she was about seven months old when she came to live with Glen N. and Nettie S. Gale of Gale, N.Y. who adopted her.
Jane attended school in Childwold at the one-room school house until she was seven years old. The family then moved to Piercefield where she attended Tupper Lake Schools and graduated from Tupper Lake High School in June of 1947.
On June 25, 1949, she married Floyd Hutchins at Holy Name Church. Jane worked at L.P. Quinn elementary school in the cafeteria from 1974 until 2005, when she retired after 31 years.
During the summer months, she and her husband sold firewood to the campsites in Star Lake and Cranberry Lake for many years. She enjoyed being a mother, not only to her own six children, but to many others who needed mothering. She was an avid seamstress and with her talents she made clothes for her children and herself. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and going for long rides with her husband during retirement years. She was a fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Mets and enjoyed watching both teams.
She is pre-deceased by her husband of 59 years, Floyd in 2008. She is survived by her children, Michael and his wife Joanne (Gaudet), Michelle and her fiancé Rick Tessier, Devin and her husband Randy LaFave, Heidi and her husband Terry LaQuay, Shawn and his wife Maureen (Denis) and Patrick. Also surviving Jane are ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be at a later date in Gale, N.Y. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Tupper Lake Rescue Squad. Arrangements are with the Stuart-Fortune-Keough funeral home.
