David E. Jacobs

Dan McClelland

David Edwin Jacobs, 79, of Tupper Lake, NY, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, following a long illness.
Born in Canaseraga, NY on October 6, 1937, he was a son of Silas and Ann Jacobs. He attended local schools and graduated from Dansville High School.
Mr. Jacobs enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1959 and served the next 20 years as an electronics specialist, serving on bases in New York, Alaska, South Carolina, Puerto Rico, New Mexico, and California.  He was honorably discharged on August 1, 1979, achieving the rank of Technical Sergeant.
Following retirement from the Air Force Mr. Jacobs and his family moved to Tupper Lake, NY, where he was first employed for several years at the W. Alton Jones Cell Science Center in Lake Placid, and subsequently at Sunmount Development Center in Tupper Lake until he retired in 2002.
Mr. Jacobs was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, canoeing, and hiking, the latter two shared with his wife, Donna.  He was also very much at home in the kitchen, where he loved to don his apron and bake bread and stir up a kettle of steaming soup.  He was an active member of the Tupper Lake Rod and Gun Club and also taught bow hunter safety courses. In later years his hobby of nature photography brought him much pleasure.
On November 21, 1964 he was married to the former Donna Jean Bellows of Tupper Lake.
In addition to his wife of 52 ½ years, he is survived by four children: Darnell (DeeAnna), and husband Daniel Jurgensen of Milford, PA; Devon, and wife Meredith (Charles) of Cadyville, NY; Damist Lavoie of Peru, NY; and Damon, and companion Melissa (Conto) of Massena, NY.  He is also survived by five grandchildren: Derek and David Franchino; Dexter Jacobs; and Aeryn and Molly Lavoie; as well as a brother Stephen, and nephews Russell Jacobs and Darcy Tracy.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ann and Silas Jacobs; a sister, Joyce Tracy; a nephew, Kent Jacobs; and infant grandson, Anthony Stearns.
Funeral services for Mr. Jacobs will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, May 22 at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 24 Cliff Avenue in Tupper Lake, with Pastor Rick Wilburn of the Tupper Lake Baptist Chapel officiating.  Interment follows at 1:30 pm in the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY, with full military honors.
Friends wishing to remember Mr. Jacobs are asked to consider the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
